The sauna and ice bath combination is the most asked-about modality pair in Perth right now. People search for them together because doing them together is where the actual physiological benefit lives. A single sauna session is restorative. A single ice bath is invigorating. Cycling between them (contrast therapy) triggers vasodilation followed by vasoconstriction, which acts as a pump on the cardiovascular system and the lymphatic system simultaneously. It's the protocol that high-performance athletes, FIFO workers and serious recovery clients have been moving toward.
This is a local Perth guide: where to find both modalities under one roof, what a session actually looks like, who it suits, and what the pricing structure looks like across providers. Beyond Rest runs ice bath and sauna at East Perth and Wembley in private rooms. We'll be straight about what we offer and what competitors offer.
Three reasons.
First, the FIFO and shift worker market in Perth has driven mainstream adoption of contrast therapy faster than the rest of Australia. Pre-rotation and post-rotation recovery for mining and offshore workers built the market for early-morning sessions, private rooms (you don't want to share when you have 90 minutes before a shift), and the contrast protocol specifically because it compresses cardiovascular recovery and lymphatic drainage into 25-35 minutes.
Second, the wellness culture in Perth tends toward private and clean rather than communal. People searching sauna and ice bath perth are typically not looking for a bathhouse with 20 strangers. They want their own bookable space.
Third, infrared sauna and ice bath have separately matured into mainstream modalities in Australia, and clients are now asking for them paired in one visit rather than booking two separate appointments at two separate places.
125 Edward Street, East Perth. Full-spectrum infrared sauna plus dedicated ice bath. Private rooms, no shared tubs. Bookable as a contrast therapy package (sauna + ice bath sequence) or as individual modalities. Hours work for standard day-shift clients with evening availability.
1/252 Cambridge Street, Wembley. Same setup: infrared sauna + ice bath, both private. The differentiator at Wembley is the 6am Monday opening, which is built around FIFO clients coming in before a rotation. Pre-rotation contrast therapy is one of the most-booked sessions of the week.
Hawthorn East and Moonee Ponds (our Melbourne centres) also offer ice bath, but for Perth clients the East Perth and Wembley options are local. Prahran (Melbourne) and Moonee Ponds don't have ice bath. Collingwood (Melbourne) does. Geography aside, if you're in Perth, your options are East Perth or Wembley.
The standard Beyond Rest contrast session runs 35-40 minutes total in a single private room. Order:
You're free to vary the order, the times in each, and the number of rounds. New clients typically do two rounds; experienced clients do three. The therapist talks you through the first time.
You can also book either modality on its own. Some clients want sauna only, others come specifically for the ice bath. The contrast pairing is just where the data is strongest.
Sauna alone raises core temperature, dilates peripheral blood vessels, increases heart rate, releases heat shock proteins and triggers a cardiovascular stress response similar to moderate exercise. It improves vascular function over a course of regular sessions (Laukkanen, 2018, Mayo Clinic Proceedings).
Ice bath alone constricts peripheral blood vessels, drops core temperature briefly, triggers a sympathetic nervous system spike, releases norepinephrine and dopamine and reduces inflammation (Mooventhan and Nivethitha, 2014, North American Journal of Medical Sciences).
Doing them in sequence stacks both responses. The vasodilation-vasoconstriction cycle acts as a pump on the lymphatic system (which has no central pump of its own; it relies on muscle movement and vascular pressure changes), and the alternation between sympathetic and parasympathetic activation appears to compress recovery time vs either modality alone.
For FIFO clients, the practical translation is: 35 minutes of contrast therapy in the morning before a rotation feels like sleeping an extra hour. The cardiovascular reset and lymphatic flush carry through the shift.
Wembley's 6am Monday opening was specifically introduced for FIFO clients heading to site. Pre-rotation contrast therapy reduces inflammation accumulated from the days before rotation, primes the cardiovascular system for the work ahead, and produces enough dopamine and norepinephrine to take the edge off the early start.
Post-rotation, contrast therapy is one of the most efficient ways to reset circadian rhythm and clear the inflammation built up over a 7 or 14 day stint. Most FIFO clients book within 24 hours of getting home.
We don't charge a FIFO surcharge. The standard pricing applies.
Solo session (single private room, contrast therapy): $79. Duo session (two-person private room): $109. Both centres priced identically.
Sauna only: $59 single session, packages available.
Ice bath only: $59 single session, packages available.
Most clients run two to three contrast sessions per week, especially in a FIFO or post-event recovery context.
If your priority is the private experience and the contrast protocol specifically, Beyond Rest is set up for it. The ice bath and sauna are in the same private room, the therapist guides first-timers, and the schedule supports early-morning and evening bookings.
If your priority is communal experience and a lower per-session price, a few Perth providers operate group bathhouses with shared facilities. These work for some clients but the trade-off is timing flexibility and the privacy.
If your priority is athletic team training, both Beyond Rest Perth centres book group sessions for clubs and corporate teams.
Talk to your GP before starting. The contrast protocol creates strong cardiovascular swings that are generally beneficial but should be supervised in clients with existing cardiac issues.
Beyond Rest runs ice baths between 4 and 8 degrees C. Cold enough to trigger the response, warm enough that first-timers can manage 60-90 seconds.
For general wellness, 1-2 times per week. For active recovery or FIFO rotation timing, 2-3 times per week. For acute injury or post-event recovery, daily for a short stretch.
Swimwear and a towel. We supply a robe between the sauna and ice bath, and water for during and after.
